[1:8]  1 tc The MT reads “his hand” while many Hebrew mss as well as the Qere read “hands of.” Two similar Hebrew letters, vav and yod, have been confused.

[2:5]  2 tn Heb “they”; the phrase “And as for them” has been used in the translation for clarity.

[2:5]  3 tn The Hebrew word implies obedience rather than mere hearing or paying attention.

[2:5]  4 tn This Hebrew adjective is also used to describe the Israelites in Num 17:25 and Isa 30:9.

[2:5]  5 sn The book of Ezekiel frequently refers to the Israelites as a rebellious house (Ezek 2:5, 6, 8; 3:9, 26-27; 12:2-3, 9, 25; 17:12; 24:3).

[4:13]  6 sn Unclean food among the nations. Lands outside of Israel were considered unclean (Josh 22:19; Amos 7:17).

[8:14]  7 tn Given the context this could be understood as a shock, e.g., idiomatically “Good grief! I saw….”

[8:14]  8 sn The worship of Tammuz included the observation of the annual death and descent into the netherworld of the god Dumuzi. The practice was observed by women in the ancient Near East over a period of centuries.

[10:15]  9 tn Heb “it was the living creature.”

[11:22]  10 tn Heb “lifted.”

[16:24]  11 tn The Hebrew גֶּב (gev) may represent more than one word, each rare in the Old Testament. It may refer to a “mound” or to “rafters.” The LXX, Syriac, and Vulgate interpret this as a brothel.

[16:24]  12 tn Or “lofty place” (NRSV). See L. C. Allen, Ezekiel (WBC), 1:229, and B. Lang, Frau Weisheit, 137.

[17:5]  13 tn Heb “took of the seed of the land.” For the vine imagery, “seedling” is a better translation, though in its subsequent interpretation the “seed” refers to Zedekiah through its common application to offspring.

[17:5]  14 tn Heb “a field for seed.”

[22:15]  15 sn The ultimate purpose of divine judgment is to purify the covenant community of its sins.

[27:30]  16 tn Heb “make heard over you with their voice.”

[27:30]  17 tn Note a similar expression to “roll in the ashes” in Mic 1:10.

[33:33]  18 tn Heb “behold it is coming.”

[36:10]  19 tn Heb “I will multiply on you human(s).”

[40:12]  20 tn Heb “one cubit” (i.e., 52.5 cm).

[40:12]  21 tn Heb “six cubits” (i.e., 3.15 meters).

[40:43]  22 tc This reading is supported by the Aramaic Targum. The LXX, Vulgate, and Syriac read “shelves” or some type of projection.

[40:43]  23 tn Heb “one handbreadth” (7.5 cm).

[48:35]  24 tn Heb “eighteen thousand cubits” (i.e., 9.45 kilometers).

[48:35]  25 sn See Rev 21:12-21.
